Write that essay independence 1 & 2

 Adverbs

-Suddenly, the silence wasn't so quiet.

-Enthusiastically, I scram out of bed ready for my first day of school.

-Unfortunately, cancer won the battle.

-Quietly, I sneak out ignoring the sensible voice in my head.

Preposition 

-On the roof, is my lazy cat bathing in the sun's rays.

-Above the fireplace, are memories encased in frames.

-Behind me, a black figure slowly approaches out from shadow.

-Under the stairs, my brother hides waiting to be found.

Punctuation sentences

Silently, the cat stalked it's prey.

In 1975, a high school was finally built in Hornby. 

Amongst the papers, I found my homework.

Anxiously, I awaited my test results.

Fortunately, the kai today was something good.

About twenty years ago, a law was passed that changed everything.

Often the things, we say and the things we mean are two different things.

Cautiously, he knocked on the principals door and await a reply.

Write that essay

 The power sentence.

If you waffle a lot, try starting your sentence with a power statement of 12 words or less.

Example= Money is the route of all evil.

                What is right, isn't always popular.

                Hard work leads to positive results.

                Antarctica is bitterly freezing.

                English is clearly the best subject.

The 'red, white and blue' sentence:

Use this sentence style when you have several ideas to convey about a topic.

Example= Successful students are focused, hard-working and punctual.

                                                                               Red               white                    blue            

The earths key resources are clean air, fresh water and natural environments.

Sunshine, water and friends make for a perfect weekend adventure.     

Apples are juicy, crunchy and tasty.

Late night drives, blasting music and delicious snacks create the perfect vibes.

Tropical juices, hot sand and calming waters; A vacation away.

 Horses are, powerful, strong and incredible creatures.

write that essay sentence.

 The 'w' sentence- makes the sentence sound thoughtful and knowledgeable.

Remember the rule: not every 'w' word works as a sentence starter.

                                Remember to put the comma in when the parts 

                                affected by your 'w' word are finished.

Examples- who, while, when, whereas, where, what, whilst, with.

Whilst the class was eating, I read my book.

Where you like chocolate, others prefer candy.

What goes around, comes around.

With my school bag on, I sprinted to school.

What looked like chocolate, was actually dog poo.

With my brother, I snuck the candy from the lolly jar.

Whilst I was sleeping, my brothers started world war 3 in the living room.

While I was chewing gum, I got told to spit it out.

The 'ing' sentence

Use the- ing version of the verb e.g to run-running 

Remember the rule- when you finish your 'ing' phrase, place a comma, then write the rest of the sentence.

Some 'ing' words- listening, running, watching, realising, emerging, grasping, speaking, signalling, exposing, gossiping, acknowledging.

Examples= Realising the danger, people fled from the cities.

                  Shaking away the nerves, he walked towards the mic.

                  Acknowledging the speaker, he bowed his head in silence.

                 Running away from my brother, I tripped and fell.

                 Listening carefully, I eagerly wait to scare my little cousin. 

                 Watching my mum do the dishes, I pray she doesn't ask for my help.

                 Waiting for my mum to get home, I start on my chores.

                 Gorging down a meatball sub, I start to feel sick.

The 'ed' sentence 

Use the ed version of the verb e.g to jog, jogged. This makes for a punchy sentence starter.

Remember the rule-when you finish your ed phrase, place a comma, then write the rest of your sentence. 

Some ed words- Frustrated, surprised, excited, committed, undaunted, determined, overpowered, concerned, cornered, delighted, enthralled.

Examples-Determined to win, Tony pushed himself to the last metres of the sprint.

                 Concerned for the welfare of others, the prime minister passed new laws.

                 Frustrated by the ongoing rain, I stared out of the window.

Overpowered by my brothers, I back away from the fight.

Delighted by the aroma of freshly baked cookies, I go and try one.

Surprised about my test results, I run to tell my mum.

Enchanted by the view, a bird flies across the sky.

Write that essay

 The adverb sentence:

Adverbs describe verbs. e.g surprisingly, confusingly, firstly, Remarkably, often.

Adverb sentence starters add interest or intrigue to our work.

Remember the rule: When you start a sentence with an adverb, place a comma after the adverb then write the rest of the sentence. 

Examples- accidentally, shockingly, concerningly, excitedly, significantly, similarly, simply.

-Simply, I added the milk to the batter.

-Shockingly, the lunch today was served hot.

-Accidentally, I poured hot sauce in my fish tank.

-Concerningly, my boss doesn't know how to do his job.

-Unfortunately, my brother came home from camp.

-Suddenly, a little man came out of my fridge.

-Surprisingly, I got my work finished.

-weakly, I punched my brother in the back.

-Quietly, I snuck out of my house. 

-Thankfully, my mum didn't catch me.

-Quickly, I chased after my dog who ran off the leash.

The prepositions sentence:   

Examples- In, against, between, over, behind, within, under, below, at, for, throughout, near, about

A preposition gives location or movement.

Remember the rule: when you start the sentence with a preposition, you need to put a comma when the movement or position ends.

In the beginning, we talked a lot.

Throughout the lesson, I tried not to fall asleep.

Near the basketball court, is the rubbish bin.

In my house, I have a kitchen.

At lunchtime, I had my food.

Near the dairy, there is a playground.

Above the fireplace, there is a picture frame.

Between 2 and 3 o'clock, I get excited.
